Hello,
One of my hardest times staying on track with my new healthy lifestyle is when my fiance and I travel 3 hours away from home to visit his family. When we go, we usually stay for 3 days at their house. They do not diet at all and I do not do any of the cooking there. I try to bring some healthy items of food with me like fruits, but I always end up eating stuff that I would not eat if I was at home cooking for myself. They do know that I am trying to lose weight before I get married in April 2009, which lets face it, is not far away. Doe's anyone have any advice on this issue, or is anyone going through this themselves? Thanks for your input.

I don't know if it's helpful or not, but when I go to visit my mom, I always hit up the local grocery store. Sometimes I go to her house first to see what she has available, I make a small list, then off I go. I know it's a pain in the butt, but if I didn't go, I wouldn't eat healthy either. Also, I offer to cook one or more nights for her and her husband. Something that I think is versatile and not noticeable as low fat (so it's not like they are suffering for me). If you don't want to do that, maybe just ask them not to cook for you, and prepare simple meals for yourself. It's tough! Hang in there.

Offering to cook would not only help you, but I think it would be a good gesture. I also bring bottled water with me when I travel. One fail safe that I have been using is to have toss salad fixins handy. Do you know what they are having ahead of time? Try to convert what they are eating to be healthy. If they are having sandwiches and the bread is to high in calories, etc, turn it into a salad. I usually bring some dry cereal as well just for a snack. I go for high in fiber and low or No sugar. Also, in addition to looking at food, have you considered exercise? Perhaps scheduling a walk or ice skating.
