I've been going through a lot lately. My mom passed away last month. Mother's Day was my first one without her. I've got a stressful job and would like to be able to find a new one, but as anyone knows the economy sucks. This morning I weighed and I'm up another 1/2 pound. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm almost in tears because its so frustrating. It seems like whenever I get to about 173-175 I always stall and can't make any progress.....
Anyone have any suggestions as to what I'm might be doing wrong.
I'll be 50 in August and want to be down to 137 by then. I see my dr for a blood pressure check and I want to be able to get off my meds.....

Thanks
Kim

Kim,
I'm sorry for your loss. I miss my mother and think of her all the time.

I was moved by your post. Last year at age 52 I decided I was tired of looking old and fat. I've lost about 70lbs and also hover between 170-175lb. I'm 5'8" so it's not a bad weight but I would like to lose another ten or so.

I wonder if our mind and body wants to get used to our new size before losing more? Don't we all wish we could bottle focus and motivation! Here are a few suggestions that work for me
  • Try thinking of NOT eating as your reaction to stress and sadness. Teach yourself to react to emotions without food. Have a drink of water and think about the control you feel. To be slim you must embrace the sensation of emptiness instead of that dull overfull feeling.
  • On the other hand, you don't want to let yourself get too hungry. If I don't eat a some protein for lunch, I have a hard time controlling the urge to eat and eat in the early evening.
  • Raw almonds are a great snack - it only takes a few to feel full.
  • Plan lunch and dinner meals so you know what you are going to cook and eat. Afternoon and evenings are my "danger" time.
  • Consider trying 1or 2 day juice fasts. I swear by the Hollywood Miracle 48 Hour drink they sell at Walgreens.
  • Walk or exercise daily if possible.
  • No fast food

Good luck let me know if you would like to correspond.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad 16 months ago. I understand about going through a stressful time. I lost my job unexpectedly in February. My husband works as a sub-contractor in construction. We struggle w/ just keeping the house going each month. I just take it one day at a time to get through the day.

You have to maintain your metabolism level, which means eating small meals through out the day. You need to plan your meals. You also need to make sure you burn more calories than you eat.

Just remember you are worth it and you can do this!!! biggrin.gif
