In January I set out to run a 5K in May. I had so many challenges along the way. It was too cold to take my son out. The stroller wheels wobbled wildly when I'd try to run. My babysitter wouldn't watch him an extra half hour so I could train. My son got sick. I got sick. I fell down some stairs and was injured. All this was comming up against me. I was using the Couch to 5K training program from coolrunnings.com and the pod casts for it by Rober Ulrey. I borrowed a jogging stroller from a co-worker. My illness and injury (falling down the garage stairs) was just a few days before the race. I'd been training since January and was only on week 4 of the program! Ugh! The night before the race was a Biggest Looser TV night and they were sent home and found out they had to run a marathon in 30 days. Wow! They did it and it was so encouraging. I figured that if they could do a marathon I could do a measly 5K. So I went with the goal to run as long as I could. I'd never checked how far I'd been running or how fast so I had no idea how it would go. I'll admit I wasn't very optimistic The race started and it was good. Mile 1 passed, mile 2 passed. I was feeling really good. Mile 3 was hilly and I started to ache and was getting tired and starting to suck wind. I knew if I started walking I wouldn't be able to start again so I just kept running. I might have been slow but I was passing people who started strong and were now walking. Seeing the finish line was so encouraging that I picked it up a little and finished with a time of 36:40. It was a fantastically empowering feeling. I'm psyched to do it again. Maybe in the fall. With everything in the way I didn't let it get to me and accomplished more then I thought possible.

Cheers to me for completing my goal and my first 5K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
