I purchased Dr. Huizenga's book, "Where did all the fat go?", and started the WOW Rx diet last week. I ate about 1300-1400 calories per day, and exercised at home about 20-30 minutes per day. I lost 6 pounds the first week on the diet, and I WAS NOT hungry!!! This week I joined 24 hour fitness, mostly for the treadmill and other machine workout. (The personal trainers there are HIGH pressure to sell the Personal training extra's, EXPENSIVE $$ ) I am going to work out on my own for awhile as I have not exercised 2 hours (Dr.H's recommendation) for years. Is any one else on this diet, if so could you post and let me know how you are doing? unsure.gif

Thats awesome! How does the book have you eat and what kinds of foods?

The book explains dieting or rather a eating plan that "You finally GET", It is a calorie plan, lots of fruits and veggies, a couple grains & dairy per day and lean protein, based on how many calories per day for persons weight. Meals spread out to two-three hours apart, and 2 hours of exercise a day. The book is defnitely worth buying, got mine through Amazon. If you really want to loose weight, I suggest buying the book, great read.
Anyone looking for Z yet?

Yah the book got me off my bum last April...I too thought it was a great read, specialy if you are a BL fan. If you arnt then its probably not gonna affect you in the same capacity, but you never know...

..Didnt follow alot of what he did as far as turning all the walking into running. Or his eating per say, ate good tho.
But the 2 hr exercise and pushing thru lil aches and pains, took my way outa my comfort zone & opened me to a whole other world...LOL...
It just CLICKED w/me...Ah, dont ya just love those 'click' moments'?

I loved reading what the '36 states at home contestants' were saying and doing and following along with that weekly... I actualy read it here and there for months...

*Theres a much bigger picture to losing weight(dealing with the whys etc) tho that he didnt touch on at all, *
But Ill say it again, if you are a Big BL fan, its kindof a 'no brainer, must read'....
I think...

I take all the books I read in stride so, enjoy it and I hope it gets you moving like it did me...
oops, k Id better get my 2xdays in...LOL...

oh and Janel..... What do you mean my "anyone looking for Z yet"? new book?

I was posting at the Biggest Loser Comments page as "Z", there were a couple of people that were talking about the book with me, told them to come to this site and we could chat back and forth. SO, I just put that at the bottom of the post to help to get their attention, since I am both Janel and Z (my last name ends in a Z, I spell it for others and say ends with a Z, one of my nicknames is Z.

Thanks for the link to the other board, interesting... BUT, what happened to the Book Club? Couldn't find that anywhere. I also first found out about the book from Matt, but, Vicky(BL#6) also mentions it on her my space page and suggests reading it. I'm not quite up to the two hours a day of exercise but I am getting there. This weekend was not too great with Super Bowl and all, a little too much beer! wink.gif OOPS! But, I did get back up on my horse andget back to the diet yesterday. I had my first shake last nite, The Strawberry Cheesecake, it was really great! Yummy!!!

I read this book and am doing my best to follow it--at least a modified version. It convinced me that with more than 140 pounds to lose I can work out and I should be working out with intensity. I strive for 6 mornings a week at one hour per day. So far, the best I've done is 5 mornings.

I am so tired that I can't think of exercising a second hour each day. When the weather warms up, I plan on taking my husband and my dog on a walk after dinner. I may have to put both of them on a leash to get them out the door (hee hee).

As for the food part, I should be eating way more than I am, according to the guidelines. You take your resting metabolic rate, multiply your activity during the day, and then add your exercise calories. This is the calories you need to maintain your weight. Well, for me, that turns out to be about 3400 calories per day. Then subtract out 1000 cals per day to lose 2 pounds per week. I tried 2000 calories but didn't lose anything.

I believe this would work but I'm having trouble making good choices. I did lose about 8 pounds in one week though. I would be very interested in hearing what other people have done following this plan. wink.gif

Nanners~ I am so glad to hear that someone else is trying this diet. The book helped to motivate me. Dr. H. really explains all his studies and case studies so that someone like me can easily understand. I have also modified the exercise for now until I work up to the two hours a day. I did join 24 hour fitness and am working out there for one hour a day 6 days a week. That is really something for me since I normally do no exercise and work at a desk all day. Since I live in Colorado, walking outside is out until the weather warms up, but, I do plan on walking also.

As far as the calories, I did'nt use the formula that you used. Look at pages 61-63, see the chart based on you weight? That is the one I used. I have been trying to stay at 1400-1475 calories per day. I lost 6 lbs the first week, this week (2nd week) I lost 2.5. But, I have to be honest. A Super Bowl Party threw me for a loop, too much beer. I still feel bloated. Next weekend we are going away for our 17th Anniversary (Valentine' Day), so after that I plan on hitting this plan hot and heavy.

Lets keep in touch, at least through this site and keep each other posted. I was looking at your profile and saw that you like ice cream and plan on keeping it even on the diet. Have you tried the Skinny Cow ice cream treats? They range in calories from about 60 (fudgecycles) to about 160 each, They have ice cream sandwiches ( lots of flavors, choc mint, peanut butter, choc, vanilla, and I hear they even have a strawberry shortcake one), tasty cones and lots of really great tasting stuff, try them, let me know what you think. Why don;t we add each other as our friends or buddies, can we do that like at the my space page does? LOL and Good Luck!!! biggrin.gif
LovelyRita
Hi Z!!!! I finally found you. Ok I am on Day 1. I did my workout this morning... 60 minutes on the treadmill. I could only go 3.3 miles so I'll have to work up to the 4 miles he suggests. I thought I was out of my mind this morning being on that thing at 6 a.m. but I did it! I plan to treadmill tonight while watching TBL and then do the other workouts like he says the rest of the week.

I think this will totally work as long as I do the twice a day workouts. I think that is the key.

I hope we both do awesome. I certainly have enough to lose....150 lbs. And this is after I've already lost 30 from last year (I actually lost 50 but gained 20 back with drinking and eating junk at Christmastime). So this is a new year and I've finally got my stuff together...so away we go!

If you don't mind, and even if you do lol, I will post here each day that I've completed my workout. We can be workout buddies. If I told anyone in my life I planned on exercising twice a day for one hour each time 6 days a week, they'd have me put in the funny farm, lol. I'll rely on you and you can rely on me for support. biggrin.gif

BTW, I checked out his website (thewowrx.com) and it totally sux. There is nothing there! I wish he had a support site like this one but I guess we can just use this one till he gets his stuff together over there.

Lovely Rita~ I posted a message at your opening page to you. I saw that you were signed in on line and thought maybe we could chat awhile. I need to check in today to find out how we can e-mail each other throught his site. Maybe I will have info for you tomorrow.

As you can tell from the posts above, I am still working on the two hours a day. My husband and I are going on an Anniversary trip this week-end and I plan on starting the two hour exercise Monday morning. Right now I am up to 1- 1-1/2 hours at the gym. 30-45 minutes on the treadmill.

Will check back with you tomorrow. Glad you found this site!

Hi gals,
So cool you are supporting each other with Doing Dr Hs book. It really got me to where I am now.
Im going to be starting again with walking and the PPT in the evenings with more walking.

Id like to encourage one of you to start a New thread under 'workout routines' (its the area where we chatter about what we did for the day w/the 100 hr challenge). But not here in motivational though as it will just get moved by moderators to the section they think it should be in, so more peeps can join in...See what I mean?

You/we can keep this one about the book here, but add daily exercise stuff and other chatter under *'Where'd all the fat go' 2xdays chatter* or something like that? 2xdays, yah that'd be cool.

Im stay at home mom so Ive moved all my time into one session usualy but Id like to change it up again and go back to a.m. walks(I dont do early...lol..Cuz I dont HAVE to..lol) and then my PPT later aft. adding recreational/aerobics exercise he calls it in the form of BL dvds on alt days....

I have read thru the book(parts) many times and still keep it close(been next to computer last few weeks its been brought up here again...I like that.

Oh and Janel, the book club was brought up by a past leader of a team( that fizzled out) and was never mentioned again.
So this motivational thread is a good place to talk about that part of it eh?
OK, lots to do this am. Its funny cuz every day I look at the clock and think omgosh I have to get my a.m. wrkout in b4 noon...lol...and Ive been doing the BL bootcamp and other bL dvds, with weights so I need to rearrange my schedule...

And LR? As many times as Ive been thru the book I never remember him mentioning a website..lol..But I went there and WHOA, its sure spendy to do the official program but if you had the money? Well, its just like what the at home contestants went thru and would be cool.

BUT Hes never done anything more with the site unfortunately as I see the guest books been around pretty much since the begginning of the book last Feb or so...
k, longwinded sorry, gotta get caleb ready to get out the door and take care of sick hubby.
I will drop by both of your homepages and add you as a contact...
(think I added you late last night Janel)

Update on my WOW Rx diet... just finished week 6, I have lost 13 lbs so far, that is 2.17 lbs a week. I am posting this to keep the wow factor up for me. Although I am happy with the loss, I guess I was hoping for numbers more like the BL TV show? Yeah right. laugh.gif

I have lost tons of inches, I can tell in my clothing. I would tell you how many inches, but can't seem to locate the original measurments. So, have measured again and will go from there. Starting to get some muscles again.

My husband did comment last week that he could tell that I have lost weight and that my calves are looking FINE! wub.gif
