I read this book and am doing my best to follow it--at least a modified version. It convinced me that with more than 140 pounds to lose I can work out and I should be working out with intensity. I strive for 6 mornings a week at one hour per day. So far, the best I've done is 5 mornings.
I am so tired that I can't think of exercising a second hour each day. When the weather warms up, I plan on taking my husband and my dog on a walk after dinner. I may have to put both of them on a leash to get them out the door (hee hee).
As for the food part, I should be eating way more than I am, according to the guidelines. You take your resting metabolic rate, multiply your activity during the day, and then add your exercise calories. This is the calories you need to maintain your weight. Well, for me, that turns out to be about 3400 calories per day. Then subtract out 1000 cals per day to lose 2 pounds per week. I tried 2000 calories but didn't lose anything.
I believe this would work but I'm having trouble making good choices. I did lose about 8 pounds in one week though. I would be very interested in hearing what other people have done following this plan.

Nanners~ I am so glad to hear that someone else is trying this diet. The book helped to motivate me. Dr. H. really explains all his studies and case studies so that someone like me can easily understand. I have also modified the exercise for now until I work up to the two hours a day. I did join 24 hour fitness and am working out there for one hour a day 6 days a week. That is really something for me since I normally do no exercise and work at a desk all day. Since I live in Colorado, walking outside is out until the weather warms up, but, I do plan on walking also.
As far as the calories, I did'nt use the formula that you used. Look at pages 61-63, see the chart based on you weight? That is the one I used. I have been trying to stay at 1400-1475 calories per day. I lost 6 lbs the first week, this week (2nd week) I lost 2.5. But, I have to be honest. A Super Bowl Party threw me for a loop, too much beer. I still feel bloated. Next weekend we are going away for our 17th Anniversary (Valentine' Day), so after that I plan on hitting this plan hot and heavy.
Lets keep in touch, at least through this site and keep each other posted. I was looking at your profile and saw that you like ice cream and plan on keeping it even on the diet. Have you tried the Skinny Cow ice cream treats? They range in calories from about 60 (fudgecycles) to about 160 each, They have ice cream sandwiches ( lots of flavors, choc mint, peanut butter, choc, vanilla, and I hear they even have a strawberry shortcake one), tasty cones and lots of really great tasting stuff, try them, let me know what you think. Why don;t we add each other as our friends or buddies, can we do that like at the my space page does? LOL and Good Luck!!!
